Recovering a Dining Room Without Buying One.

Restaurant upholstery NYC on your own frames: booths, banquettes, dining chairs, bar stools and loose cushions stripped back and recovered in contract vinyl, pigmented leather or performance fabric — on the frames you already own. Most of it happens in the room, after service.

What gets recovered

A restaurant is six kinds of upholstery, and none of them are recovered the same way.

Restaurant upholstery NYC is a routing problem first. What a piece is fixed to decides whether it is recovered where it stands, taken out overnight, or handed back as a cushion.

Fixed banquette runs

Bolted to the wall and to each other. Recovered in position, bay by bay — the run cannot leave without the wall coming with it.

Host bench and waiting seating

The first upholstery a guest touches and the last anyone budgets for — usually one small piece, and usually the worst in the building.

Specifying the cover

The cover is a specification before it is a colour.

Fabric bought for a living room fails in a dining room inside a season, so restaurant upholstery NYC starts with a rating, not a colour. Contract material is rated, and three of those ratings decide almost everything — long before anyone talks about shade.

Abrasion

Wyzenbeek double rubs

Commercial vinyl upholstery swatch rated for contract restaurant seating

The Association for Contract Textiles sets 15,000 Wyzenbeek double rubs as the guideline for general contract upholstery and 30,000 for heavy duty. A dining chair in a room that turns tables all evening is heavy duty, whatever the room looks like.

ACT publishes a disclaimer alongside its own numbers: abrasion results do not predict how long a material lasts in a real room. Treat the rating as a floor to clear, not a lifespan to quote your owner.

Flammability

TB 117-2013 · NFPA 260

Pigmented leather upholstery swatch for restaurant booth and banquette recovering

California TB 117-2013 tests smoulder resistance and is the federal standard for upholstered furniture. NFPA 260 is the one most often written into commercial specifications, and some assembly occupancies are specified to CAL TB 133 instead.

Which applies is set by your specifier, fit-out drawings or insurer — not by us. We supply the manufacturer's certificate for whatever goes on, in writing, before it is cut.

Cleanability

What your closing crew sprays

Performance fabric upholstery swatch for restaurant dining chairs and banquettes

The question nobody asks and everybody regrets. A bleach-tolerant vinyl and a leather that will not take a solvent wipe are opposite decisions, and the bottle on your cleaning trolley has already made the choice for you.

Tell us what closing sprays and we will spec around it — or say plainly that the product has to change instead.

Bonded faux leather delaminating and flaking off a commercial seat

One material we will not put back on a restaurant seat.

Bonded leather — a polyurethane skin on a fibre backing. In a warm room, with body heat and cleaning chemicals against it, that skin lifts and flakes in sheets. There is no repair for it. If that is what came off, we will say so and price the alternative. See bonded leather and faux leather.

Under the cover

Frames and foam, only if you ask.

Most rooms need the cover and nothing under it. Where a frame has gone loose or a seat has flattened, we strip it back, re-glue the joints, renew the webbing and cut new foam to the original profile in a commercial density — quoted on request, never assumed into the price.

If the covers are sound and only the seats have gone soft, that is foam replacement on its own, at a fraction of a recover. Say so with your photographs and we will quote it that way.

Planning the room

A dining room is recovered in passes, not in one night.

Restaurant upholstery NYC goes wrong when a whole room is booked as one enormous night. Split into passes, a restaurant is recovered without ever closing a service — and the material is bought once, so the room matches at the end.

Pass one

Survey and template

Every piece counted, measured and templated, material chosen against samples in your own light. You approve a written scope before anything is stripped.

Pass two

Cut and sew off site

Panels cut and machined in the workshop while the room trades normally. Nothing comes off a seat until its replacement is sewn and waiting.

Pass three

Fit back, zone by zone

Strip, rebuild and cover one zone per visit — a wall run, the bar, a private room. Every zone is seatable before doors open.

Restaurant upholstery NYC is quoted by the room: matching is set once, and buying the material together is what makes a floor affordable — see bulk projects. Work runs overnight or off-hours, loose pieces move on our own pickup and delivery, and building management gets a certificate of insurance first.

Why restaurants choose us

Reupholster instead of replace.

Restaurant upholstery NYC keeps the frames, the proportions and the room you already own. Buying new replaces all three, on a lead time most operators cannot give up.

  • Costs less than replacing the same seating with new contract furniture.
  • Colour, grade and texture chosen to match your brand, not a supplier's catalogue.
  • Solid frames stay out of landfill instead of being skipped.
  • An older frame is usually better built than new stock at the same money.
  • One consistent look across the room, run by run.

After
Before you book a recover

Recovering is the expensive answer. Two cheaper ones come first.

New material only earns its cost once the old has failed as a material. Short of that, one of these is the right page.

The damage is in one place

A slash, an open seam, a burn, a torn seat nose, a chair that rocks. That is a repair on the piece, not a recover — see restaurant furniture repair.

The colour has gone, not the leather

Faded window seats, shiny head-height patches, a room drifting into three tones. Sound material is refinished, not replaced — see dining room restoration.

Questions

What operators want settled before they sign anything.

What does restaurant upholstery NYC actually cover?

Restaurant upholstery NYC covers everything soft in a working dining room: fixed banquette runs, booths and curved bays, loose dining chairs, bar and counter stools, host benches, and loose cushions and back pads. On a reupholstery job the frame, carcass and base are kept and repaired, and everything above them — cover, foam, wadding, webbing and fixings — is replaced.

We work across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island, Long Island and northern New Jersey, in the room wherever the piece is fixed to the building, and in the workshop where it is not.

Can you recover the whole restaurant without us closing?

Yes, and that is the normal way we run a floor. The room is split into zones and each zone is stripped, rebuilt and recovered in a single overnight or closed-day visit, so you never lose a service. Panels are cut and sewn in the workshop in advance, which is what makes a zone finishable in one night rather than three.

The exception is a room where every seat is fixed and there is nowhere to stage covers. Those are quoted over consecutive nights, and we say so at survey rather than halfway through.

Should we recover in vinyl or in leather?

Vinyl for high-turnover seating: consistent roll to roll, tolerant of the cleaning chemicals a closing crew actually uses, and a damaged panel can be replaced later from the same batch. Pigmented leather where guests touch the material at close range — it takes a colour restoration years later, which vinyl does not.

Most rooms end up using both — leather on the banquette backs and chairs a guest leans into, vinyl on the seat decks and stools taking the punishment. We bring both and lay them under your own lighting before you decide.

Can you match material we already have on the rest of the floor?

Usually, yes. If the original specification is known we can often reorder the same product outright. If it is not, we identify the material type and grain, then match colour, sheen and texture against the closest contract range and bring samples to lay against the existing seating — matching from a photograph is the one thing that never works.

Where an exact match genuinely is not available, the honest options are to recover a complete visual run so the change reads as deliberate, or to change the whole room. We will show you both before you commit.

Do you carry insurance for working in a leased dining room?

Yes. A certificate of insurance naming your landlord or managing agent as additional insured is issued before the first visit — which is what most buildings require to release after-hours access. Send the building's requirements with your enquiry and the paperwork moves alongside the quote instead of becoming a delay at the door.

Start here

Photograph one seat close up and the run it sits in.

Two photographs price most restaurant upholstery NYC jobs. The close-up tells us whether the material has failed or only lost its colour. The wide shot tells us how much of the room moves with it. Both answers come back in writing before anything is booked.
