Not everything on an RH hide is damage.

These three get quoted to us as faults every week. None of them is. Knowing the difference is most of what an honest estimate is for.

Colour that has shifted and deepened

A lightly finished hide keeps moving after it leaves the store. Arms go darker where hands rest, the seat warms toward amber, sunlit panels lift. That is the leather working, not failing. Refinishing it flat would cost you the one thing that cannot be bought back.

Creasing, slouch and a softened seat

Big RH seats are built to relax. Creases fanning out from where you sit, a cushion that no longer stands square, a back that has gone soft — that is upholstery settling. If it has gone past comfortable, the answer is usually the fill underneath, not the hide on top.

Scars, veining and range marks

Healed scars, insect bites, growth lines and colour variation across a panel are the animal's own record. On a heavily corrected hide they would have been sanded off. Here they were left in deliberately. They are not defects and we will not charge you to hide them.

Questions we get about RH leather.

How do I tell a patina from actual damage?

Stretch the area gently with your thumb. Colour that shifts and comes back is the finish doing what it was made to do. Pale lines that stay pale when you release, a surface that flakes under a fingernail, or a mark you can feel a lip on, are through the finish and into the hide. That is the point where RH leather sofa repair becomes worth paying for. If you are not sure, two photos will settle it faster than any description.

Can you match the exact color of my RH sofa?

Yes, and we match on the piece rather than from a chart. A hide that has spent eight years in a west-facing room is not the colour it shipped as, so a factory-correct sample would land as an obvious patch. We build the match against the panel next to the repair and blend outward until the edge disappears.

Do you work on RH sectionals in place, or does the piece leave?

Most jobs are done in your home. Cracking, colour loss, scuffs, small tears and cleaning are all on-site work, and a sectional never has to be broken down and carried out. Only a full panel replacement or a seat rebuilt from the frame up needs the workshop, and we tell you which it is before anything is moved.

My cushions have gone soft and slouchy. Is that a leather problem?

Usually not. A deep seat that has lost its shape is almost always the fill giving up, and the hide over it can be in fine condition. Recolouring it would change nothing you can sit on. We look at the cushion interior first, because replacing a leather panel to fix a comfort problem is money spent on the wrong layer.

Is a leather conditioner from the hardware store safe on it?

Be careful. Lightly finished and waxed hides absorb whatever you put on them, so a silicone or solvent-heavy dressing can darken a panel permanently or leave a blotch that will not level out. If the leather has genuinely dried, it needs something that goes in and stays flexible, applied evenly across the whole panel rather than dabbed on the dry spot. Test any product on the underside of a cushion first.

Are you an authorized RH service center?

No, and we will not imply otherwise. We are an independent leather repair workshop with no affiliation to RH. We name the brand only to describe the furniture we service. If your piece is still inside a warranty period, speak to the retailer first, because work done elsewhere can affect a claim. Outside of that, RH leather sofa repair is ours to handle end to end.
