Leather restoration NYC: a restored cognac leather sofa in a Manhattan living room

Every layer back, not just color.

Leather restoration NYC for homes. We clean, rebuild, recolor and seal the whole piece in your room, so it reads as one sofa again.

Repair or restoration

One patch, or the whole piece

A repair fixes the worst spot. Restoration brings every panel back to one finish.

One Finish

Seats and arms wear faster than backs. Fix one cushion and the rest suddenly looks older. Restoration evens the whole piece out.

Only one small mark? A scratch repair is the smaller job.

What it covers

Six layers, done as one job

Color over a cracked or dirty surface does not last. Every leather restoration NYC job starts underneath.

Each layer has its own page: cleaning, crack repair, peeling repair, color restoration and protection.

Is it the right job

Restore, repair or reupholster?

The state of the leather underneath decides, not the color on top.

Split Through — Reupholster

If the leather still flexes without cracking, it can be restored. Where it has split through, the honest answer is reupholstery, or a new panel.

Finished work

Still looks like leather

A good restoration keeps the grain and the soft hand. It should not look painted.

Grain Still Shows

Leather is a skin, not a plastic, as Britannica explains. That is why we build the finish in thin coats rather than one thick one.

Not sure what your leather is? Our materials guide covers aniline, pigmented and bonded.

Questions

Leather restoration questions

What is the difference between leather repair and restoration?

A repair fixes one damaged area. Restoration works the whole piece, so every panel ends up with the same color and sheen.

Is restoration cheaper than buying a new sofa?

For a well-made sofa it usually is, because the frame and leather stay. We quote after seeing photos, so you can compare before deciding.

Do you take the sofa away?

Most restorations happen in your home. Only work like full reupholstery needs the workshop.

Will the leather feel stiff afterwards?

It should not. Thin coats keep the leather soft, and the grain stays visible. If it feels like plastic, too much was put on.

Can bonded leather be restored?

Rarely for long. Bonded leather peels from its backing, so we usually advise reupholstery and say so up front.

Can I change the color while you restore it?

Often, yes, especially from light to darker. We test the new color on a hidden spot first.
