What does Room & Board leather repair cover?
Room & Board leather repair covers scuffs, scratches, color wear, seam splits, worn edges, stains and collapsed cushion support. We assess the hide first and repair only what needs repairing.
How do I know if my piece is top grain, nubuck or synthetic?
Their care guide asks you to confirm the leather type before cleaning, and prescribes a different product for each one. Top grain takes a cleaner and a conditioner, nubuck needs a nubuck cleaner and a soft brush, and synthetic must not meet soap or excess water. Nothing warns you when the wrong one has been used, so we identify the hide in front of us rather than guessing.
I cleaned one spot and now it looks different. Can that be fixed?
Yes, and it is common. Their guide warns that spot cleaning can change the appearance of one spot, and advises cleaning a broad area instead. Once the patch has appeared, the fix is a color match blended out into the surrounding panel so the correction has no edge.
My cushions have gone flat. Does the leather have to come off?
No. These seat and back cushions have zippered casings, which their care guide tells you to open in order to rotate the cushion inside. That means the core can be rebuilt through the zip and the hide is never touched.
There is a wood polish mark on the leather. Is it permanent?
Their guide calls a Satin Wax mark permanent, and it happens during the annual wood treatment they recommend for pieces that pair leather with oil-and-wax finished wood. It is not permanent to us. The mark is lifted and the color rebuilt across the panel.
