Why custom
Built around you, not around a catalogue.
In custom upholstery NYC work, every number below is yours to set. On a finished piece, all of them were decided by somebody who never saw your room.
- Custom dimensions
- Seat depth & back height
- Your preferred firmness
- Any configuration
- Arm profile & base

A fit you cannot buy finished.

What we create
If it has a frame and a cover, we can build it.
Custom upholstery NYC projects rarely start with a catalogue. They start with a wall that is the wrong length, an alcove nothing fits, or a piece that has to match one you already own. The ten below are the usual requests, not the limit — we work from your drawing, so the shape is never the constraint.

How a piece gets made
From the first measurement to the day it arrives.
Every custom upholstery NYC project runs the same six stages. Nothing is cut until the drawing is signed off, because a custom piece has no original to fall back on.

01
Brief
References, the room, and what the piece has to do.

02
Measure
The room, the doorway, the elevator and the stairs.

03
Shape
Height, depth, arm and back set on a drawing you approve.

04
Material
Cover, fill and every visible detail chosen together.

05
Build
Frame, suspension, fill and cover, in that order.

06
Deliver
Carried in, placed, and levelled in the room.
Choose your silhouette
Eight starting points, none of them fixed.
Pick the one closest to what you want and we change it from there. These are shapes we build often, not a range you have to buy from.

A swatch tells you nothing until it is in your room.
So we bring the samples to you, and you judge them in the light they will live in.

Built properly
You never see the part you are actually buying.
Everywhere else on this site we tell you the frame you already own is worth keeping. Custom is the one job where the frame is the part you buy — and once the cover goes on, nobody opens it again for twenty years. So the specification is the only thing you can inspect. Here is ours.

Hardwood frame
Kiln-dried hardwood, corner-blocked and glued, not stapled ply. Drying it first is what keeps the joints tight.

Suspension
Webbing or eight-way springs, chosen for how the seat has to sit.

Foam
Cut to your pattern and specified by density, which is measured.

Fibre wrap
The layer that keeps corners round instead of hard-edged.

Cover
The only layer you will ever see, and the last one fitted.
Where it goes
Homes and rooms in service.
The build is the same. The specification is not — a dining room open seven days a week is not asked to do what a library sofa does.

Answers
Five questions worth asking before you commit to custom upholstery NYC.
Is custom more expensive than buying a finished piece?
Against a mass-market sofa, yes. Against a designer piece of the same build quality, it is usually close — and you are choosing the dimensions rather than accepting them.
How long does a custom piece take?
Most pieces run six to ten weeks from approved drawing to delivery. Material lead time is the usual variable, not the build.
What if it will not fit through the door?
That is measured before anything is cut. Where access is genuinely impossible, the piece is built to come apart and is assembled in the room.
Can you match a piece I already own?
Yes. We take the pattern and the proportions off the existing piece so the pair reads as a set rather than as two near-misses.
Do I need custom, or would reupholstery do?
If you like the shape you already have, reupholstery is cheaper and keeps a frame that is often better than a new one. Custom is for when the shape itself is the problem.
