A targeted fix for scuffs, scratches and small tears. The panel around it is left alone.

Where color and texture have gone across a whole surface, the finish is rebuilt end to end.

When the hide has failed outright, one panel is cut and stitched in. The rest of the piece stays.

We come to you with tools, color and materials. Scratches, scuffs, color work and most tears are finished in a single visit, with nothing dismantled.

Pickup & workshop care

Panel replacement, restitching and cushion rebuilds need a machine. Those are collected and returned — the same piece, not a replacement for it.

Before you book

Questions we get asked

My piece is still under warranty. Should I use that instead?

Read the terms first. DWR's own customer service FAQ states that "if replaced under warranty or at no charge, the original product will need to be returned." A warranty claim is a swap, not a repair: your piece goes away and a different one arrives. On aniline or MCL, where the patina is the point, that trade is rarely worth making. Warranties also cover manufacturing defects rather than scratches, scuffs, stains, cracking or wear — which is most of what we see.

Do you repair Design Within Reach leather in my home?

Yes, for most jobs. DWR leather repair happens in place for scratches, scuffs, burns, color restoration and small tears, across New York City, Long Island and New Jersey. Only work that needs a sewing machine — panel replacement, restitching, cushion rebuilds — travels to the workshop.

Can you match color on aniline without flattening the patina?

That is the whole skill. Aniline is untreated hide: color varies panel to panel and deepens with age. We work spot by spot and blend outward rather than coating the piece, so the character around it stays put. More on aniline leather.

Do you work on Eames lounge chairs and other licensed classics?

Yes. Moulded shells, sling seating and thin-profile cushions are built nothing like conventional upholstery — and the cushions usually lift out, which makes careful work easier.

What does DWR leather repair cost?

It depends on the leather, the size of the damaged area and how many panels are involved. Send photos and we will come back with a written estimate before anything is booked. Start with photos.
