Ink is the one mark built to stay
Every other spill wants to come off. A pen is built not to. Leather ink removal means identifying the ink, then lifting what lifts and colouring back what does not — in New York City, Long Island and New Jersey.
Five inks, five different jobs
The pen decides the method before the leather does. All five resist water and rubbing, each in its own way.
What kind of ink mark do you see?
These six cover almost everything we see.
What lifts out, and what gets coloured back
Your finish sets the ceiling on leather ink removal. A coated hide holds ink above the leather where we can reach it; an aniline hide has nothing in the way.

Recolour is not a lesser repair. The mark still goes; we rebuild colour to the nearest seam so the fix ends at an edge. That is colour restoration.
Rubbing it makes it bigger
The halo is the harder half.
1. Ink sits on the surface
The dye is held in a liquid carrier.
2. Moisture dissolves the ink
Alcohol, wipes or cleaners re-wet the dye.
3. The dye rides outwards
A small line becomes a larger halo.
4. The halo is harder to remove
The dye is now in the grain.
Leather ink removal works the other way: blotting inwards into a pad so ink lifts out of the grain instead of across it.

Can the ink disappear completely?
Fresh marks on a coated hide often lift and leave nothing. Old ink has usually stopped lifting and become a colour problem — the fix is putting colour back.
Asked and answered
How quickly do I need to call?
Sooner is cheaper. For a day or two the ink still sits where it landed. After that it creeps into the grain and seams, so the area we colour back gets wider every week.
Can you do this in my office?
Yes, and most of our marker work is office furniture. Desk chairs, reception seating and boardroom chairs are done in place, out of hours if the floor is in use.
Will the repaired patch look different in a year?
It should not. Pigment is matched to your own panel in daylight and sheen is matched separately, because a correct colour at the wrong gloss is what people actually notice.
Three marks that get mistaken for it
Dye off clothing
Blue haze where people sit, with no line to it. Dye transfer, not a pen.
A spill or a ring
A soft-edged spill or water mark belongs on leather stain removal, where depth decides.
Colour worn away
If the dark patch is missing finish rather than added pigment, it needs conditioning or a new panel.
We can usually tell from a close-up
Shoot the mark square on, light from the side, and tell us what the pen was and what has been tried. Usually enough to place you in the table.
